To mark the refurbishment of The Bushell Hall, join award-winning actress, Patricia Routledge, and international concert pianist, Piers Lane, as they tell the extraordinary story of Dame Myra Hess and her famous wartime National Gallery concerts. In Dame Myra's own words (compiled by her great-nephew, composer Nigel Hess) and with piano music by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, Chopin including her own famous arrangement of Bach's "Jesu Joy of man's desiring", we hear how the great adventure' of these 1600 lunchtime concerts began, and how it continued, while bombs rained down on London. This uplifting story about the healing power of music is directed by Christopher Luscombe.
