Welcome to the Two Rivers Festival 2012!
A concert series which brings the finest musical performers to Wirral in the North-West of England.
In 2012, our new series launches with a special event to mark the refurbishment of our principal venue, The Bushell Hall. It is to become even more adaptable than ever to intimate chamber performances, with new carpet and curtains, improved lighting, seating and heating, in addition to the existing improved facilities for interval drinks. For the refurbished venue's first official public event on Friday 24 February, Wirral-born actress Patricia Routledge and pianist Piers Lane, perform in a show which tells the remarkable story of Dame Myra Hess and her wartime recitals at the National Gallery. On Monday 26 March, we welcome back guitarist Craig Ogden with a new duo-partner, Northwich-based lap-slide guitarist Tom Doughty, for an evening of familiar tunes and hypnotic sounds.
For our third concert on Friday 20 April, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Debussy, we have commissioned five new piano pieces from five composers on the theme of water. Brilliant young pianist Clare Hammond will also play watery music by Debussy himself, Liszt and Ravel. Finally, on the afternoon of Sunday 20 May, there is a chance for you to conduct an orchestra, when American conductor Kenneth Woods and members of the Orchestra of the Swan explore the maestro's art in a lecture, master-class and concert.
For the first time, we have an on-line booking facility. If you go to the booking page and click on the link, it will take you through to our on-line box office service. As ever, we are grateful to the Headmaster of Birkenhead School for permission to use The Bushell Hall for the festival in 2012, and we look forward to seeing you and your friends at many of our events during the coming season.
